Man United fans compare Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to iconic strike duo vs Omonia

Manchester United fans have been comparing Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to heroic strike duo Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole after the Reds secured a 3-2 win over Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League.

A lovely back-heel from Rashford - who had scored the leveller - allowed Martial to cut inside and fire home his first European goal of the season on 63 minutes, just moments after coming on. United had initially gone into half-time 1-0 down.

Rashford had replaced Jadon Sancho at the break as Martial - who scored two against Manchester City on Sunday - came on later for Bruno Fernandes. Martial has enjoyed only three substitute appearances this season due to injury.

Martial played 45 minutes in the 2-1 win over Liverpool - assisting Rashford’s winner - before an Achilles injury kept him out until last weekend. He and Rashford had linked up well in pre-season and fans were able to see their connection come alive once again on Thursday.

Rashford went on to score his second of the night on 84 minutes to bring his tally up to five for the season and make it 3-1. Fans on Twitter compared the pair to Yorke and Cole, who scored 53 goals between them in the historic 1998/99 Treble season. Some called for Erik ten Hag to start Martial against Everton on Sunday.

@Ropeeightyfive: I think Rashford & Martial can be a perfect partner like Yorke & Cole.

@Keaton87921277: Beautiful from him and Rashford.

@Edison_tsk: Rashford, Martial, Antony for front 3

@Sammy_kims: Should start on the weekend.

@JacobJarvis20: HE'S BACK…THE YORKE AND COLE LINK UP BETWEEN HIM AND RASHFORD.

@JoKeR_mufc: Rashford x Martial OMDSSS.
