Man mocks gang who chopped his leg and fingers off with a machete from his hospital bed

A man who had one of his legs chopped off in an alleged drugs dispute has taunted his attackers in a video taken from his hospital bed.

The 28-year-old man and his partner of the same age were hacked at by a group who broke into their home in Coatbridge, near Glasgow, in the early hours of May 17.

The pair are understood to have been targeted after they failed to repay a six-figure debt.

After both victims were rushed to hospital with serious injuries, the man had to have his right leg amputated and a number of his fingers sewn back on.

The woman - who sources claim was attacked when she tried to call police - also had a number of fingers stitched back on to her left hand, reports the Daily Record.

But the male victim, who goes by the name "Strictly Criminal" online, has now shared a new clip from hospital where he hits back at his assailants.

In the footage he is seen dancing in his bed as he lifts up a portable speaker playing dance music and addresses them by saying: "Take the fingers, take the leg, but you won't take my life, ya bunch of f***ing dafties."

A woman who appears to be holding the camera can be heard giggling in the background afterwards.

The female victim of the attack has revealed she has split from her partner since the incident, and told the Sunday Mail: "I’m just trying to move forward with my life and recover from all of this. It has been a traumatic experience."

Neighbours told local media last month that the woman's partner had been released from jail on the day of the horror incident, and claim police told them the machete gang travelled from Liverpool to seize drugs cash.

One said: "The woman's boyfriend had been released from jail on the Tuesday and then the attack happened in the middle of the night.

"The gang burst through the front door and she had her fingers chopped while she was phoning the police.

"The police came and boarded up the house. I've not seen her for weeks now."

Another neighbour added: "Police turned up on the street and were going door to door asking if we had seen anything.

"One officer told me her boyfriend owed a drug gang from Liverpool £100,000. He'd just been let out of jail before the attack."

Both victims posted photographs of their injuries on social media in the weeks following the attack, with one showing the male in his hospital bed with his right leg amputated above the knee and his left leg bandaged and in a brace.

His arms and hands also appear heavily bandaged from above the elbow downwards.

A Police Scotland statement at the time of the incident read: "Around 2.30am on Wednesday, May 17 2023, officers were called to a report of a disturbance at a property in Beechwood Drive, Coatbridge.

“Emergency services attended and a 28-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
