Following the crash, the road was shut by police and Stagecoach bus services had to be diverted.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We attended the scene of an RTC following a 999 call at 07.46. A man in his 20s was taken to hospital."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers attended the scene after receiving a report of a crash involving two vehicles.

Stagecoach Manchester & Wigan tweeted: "Route 202. Due to a Police incident on Stockport Road, the service will travel along Market Street in Hyde to the roundabout where the service will start.

"Sorry to say but the service will not be able to travel to Gee Cross. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today."
