Man shares 'grim' meal from Wetherspoons that 'would fail GCSE food tech'

A man has slammed Wetherspoons after being served a 'grim' meal he reckons would fail a GCSE cookery class.

Spoons customer Greg Owen claimed he was visiting a restaurant in Gatwick's north terminal when was served the 'disastrous' dish.

The diner ordered the Empire State Burger, which includes two beef patties, American-style cheese, and maple-cured bacon.

Unfortunately, they did not match up to his standards. Greg said the chips were 'squashy' and the burgers tasted 'crunchy', when he took to Twitter to complain about his meal.

Criticising the offering, which 'almost defies the laws of physics', according to the diner, he wrote: "Eating in the Red Lion (Weatherspoons) [sic] in Gatwick (N) is never a 'great' experience.

"However, tonight's offering is particularly grim. The person who 'cooked' this abomination would fail GCSE level home economics cookery. Utterly disastrous."

His scathing post was accompanied by a photo of the offending meal, and quickly drew comments from unimpressed viewers.

One social media user claimed "that isn't a meal, it's a burnt offering," while a second wrote "I have no idea how someone can eat food like this and then get on a plane. Really."

Meanwhile, a third questioned if the picture included black pudding, to which Greg replied: "No ma'am- what you're seeing is scorched burger, not black pudding."

However, someone else said: "I know it's not meant to look good but I'm kinda craving onion rings now." And a different person commented: "Cheap and quick meal, what you moaning about? Seen far worse, get it down ya."

According to MyLondon, Gatwick North's resident Spoons is located on the lower level of the International Departures hall in the airport. It is rated 3.5 stars out of 5 on Tripadvisor from 823 reviews.

Among the range of reviews, positive feedback included: "Six of us called in here before we set off to Menorca. We all had the Full English Breakfast, and this is simply just superb. The service is excellent and quite prompt. At 4 in the morning, it was already busy, and queue were forming... We would certainly always grab a meal and drink here when we are next passing. Thank you for a great start to our holiday."

The Mirror has contacted JD Wetherspoons' official representatives for comment.
