Man's face slashed from 'his eye to chin' at Camp and Furnace gig

A man's face was slashed open in the middle of a packed concert venue moments before DJ Roger Sanchez was due to perform.

Merseyside Police are hunting for the assailant after the incident at Camp and Furnace, on Greenland Street in Liverpool city centre, at around 11.55pm on Saturday (December 3). A graphic photograph, seen by the ECHO, shows a young man who is reportedly the victim of the slashing covered in blood and with a gaping wound extending from just below his right eye to his chin.

A statement from the police said the victim, in his 20s, was treated at the scene by on-site medical staff before being taken to hospital. The force said CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing and urged anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said: “This was a horrible attack which left a man in hospital with a nasty slash wound to his face. This incident took place at a time when the venue would have been busy with people who might have seen the incident take place.

"I would urge anyone who saw anything, or has information to please contact us. We are working to find the person responsible for this attack and put them before the courts and we would urge anyone with information to come forward."

On Sunday Mr Sanchez, whose 2001 hit 'Another Chance' reached number one in the UK charts, took to Instagram to apologise for the last minute cancellation of his set. The 55-year-old told his 223,000 followers he was "gutted" and hoped to return to Liverpool soon.

He said: "Hey guys, I wanted to let you guys know what happened last night. I was in Liverpool at Camp and Furnace, and literally right as I was about to go on, something happened.

"The police were there and I was literally told I could not perform, so really, truly sorry to everyone who came out to see me play, I was gutted at the fact I wasn't able to play for you."

The ECHO has contacted Camp and Furnace for comment.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to Direct Message Merseyside Police's social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ quoting incident reference 22000891831.
