Man on bike rushed to hospital after crash with car

A man on a bike was rushed to hospital with head injuries after being hit by a car in Southport.

Police were called to the junction of St Lukes and Sussex Road this morning, Friday, after reports of a collision involving a Toyota Aygo and a 60-year-old cyclist. A cordon was put in place at 8am and the road closures were lifted 10.30am.

The cyclist was taken to hospital and is believed to have suffered a head injury. However, his injuries are not life-threatening.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were called to the junction of St Luke's Road/Sussex Road at 8am to reports of a collision involving a Toyota Aygo and a cyclist. The cyclist was taken to hospital for assessment of a head injury. The driver stopped at the scene. Road closures were lifted around 10.30am."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to RTC involving a bicycle following a call at 7.51am. A man in his 60s was taken to hospital with a head injury."
