A man's body has been found in a weir, after the driver of the car he was in managed to escape from a late night crash.
Two men were in an Audi sedan travelling on Audley Road in the Royal National Park, south of Sydney. at about 1.15am on Wednesday, police said.
The Audi was believed to be near a Mercedes sedan when it veered off the road and crashed into Audley Weir and sank, they said.
Investigators said the 20-year-old driver managed to escape the car but his passenger, aged in his 20s, did not.
At about 10.20am on Wednesday, police recovered the body of a man who is yet to be formally identified.
The Audi was also recovered from the weir and will be taken for forensic examination.
Both the driver who crashed the car and the 18-year-old man who was driving the Mercedes returned a negative result to a roadside breath test but were taken to hospital for mandatory testing, police said.
Specialist crash investigation officers will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
The road was closed for several hours but reopened late on Wednesday morning.
