Police are investigating the death of a 27-year-old woman whose body was found stuffed inside a freezer at an abandoned Dallas house – and whether a suspicious fire that broke out at the property later that day is connected.
Officers responded to the vacant home on Georgia Avenue in East Oak Cliff around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and found Mariah Murray’s body inside a freezer, according to Dallas police.
Dallas Fire-Rescue was later called to the scene after the house caught fire. Investigators have not said what caused the blaze or whether foul play was involved.
No arrests have been made, and police have not released information about a suspect or possible motive.
Murray’s loved ones, who describe her as a “good spirit,” are pleading for answers. They say she did not deserve the tragic circumstances of her death.
“All of these people around here, somebody who knows did it,” Murray’s cousin told Fox4. “Somebody seen her. They know who did it.”
“She didn’t deserve what happened to her,” another family member said.
Neighbors expressed shock over the discovery. One resident, Cesar Labrador, told Fox4 he hoped Murray’s loved ones could find peace.
“I really do give out my condolences to her family and hope they’re okay,” Labrador said.
Another neighbor, who spoke anonymously, described the vacant property as a frequent location for drug activity.
Family members acknowledged Murray had struggled at times but said nothing justified the way she died.
“Oh, she had plenty of options, but people choose to do what they want to do,” one relative said. “But whatever they chose, she didn’t deserve what happened.”
Another family member added: “People just make mistakes. You know, maybe she was hanging with the wrong people. Somebody had to see something, and somebody had to know something, so they need to speak up. We want justice. We want whoever did it found. Point-blank. Period.”
