A man has been left with serious head injuries after he was attacked in Nottingham city centre. Police said the victim was assaulted by a man armed with what officers described as a 'blunt instrument'.
The incident in Upper Parliament Street was reported just before 11.30pm on Tuesday (May 9). An alleyway, located between Tesco Express and the Coach & Horses pub on the street, remained cordoned off on Wednesday morning.
The victim received first aid at the scene and was then taken to hospital. He suffered serious head injuries - but the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers are still carrying out inquiries to trace the attacker, including checking CCTV footage. Detective Sergeant Richard Doel, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our investigation to understand the full circumstances of this violent incident is still in its early stages but we are pursuing lines of inquiry and appealing to anyone who was in the area, and who may have information which could assist us, to please get in touch.
“Everyone should be able to feel safe in our city without the fear of being attacked and we are working to find the person responsible and bring them to justice.” Anyone with any information, CCTV footage or who witnessed the incident should call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 956 of May 9, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
