A grand jury in Hinds County, Mississippi, has indicted a man accused of killing a Louisiana woman and abducting her two young daughters, resulting in the death of one child and injuries to the other.
The suspect, Daniel Callihan, allegedly committed the crimes at the home of the children's mother, Callie Brunett, in Loranger, Louisiana. Callihan faces seven counts, including capital murder, kidnapping, and sexual battery. His alleged accomplice, Victoria Cox, was also indicted on three counts related to the case.
Both Callihan and Cox were arrested in June and were previously indicted by a grand jury in Louisiana. An attorney representing Callihan emphasized that an indictment is not an indication of guilt and that every accused individual is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
The case gained widespread attention when an Amber Alert was issued for the abducted children, leading to their discovery over 100 miles away in Jackson, Mississippi. Investigators found the children in a wooded area with concerning features that suggested potential ties to human trafficking.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the Brunett family during this difficult time, raising over $62,000 in donations.
