A man is in a serious condition in hospital after being knocked down while out walking his dog today in East Ayrshire.
Police say the 39-year-old was struck on the A71 near Hurlford around 10.25am by a Ford B-Max car heading in the direction of Galston.
Emergency services personnel rushed to the scene with the road closed so the casualty could receive treatment – while an investigation into establishing exactly what happened was launched.
The man was taken to Kilmarnock's Crosshouse Hospital but he has been subsequently transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where medics have described his condition as "serious".
The 85-year-old driver of the vehicle was not injured with the dog also unharmed.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.
Sergeant Chris Hoggans, from the Ayrshire road policing department, said: "A man has sustained serious injuries as a result of this crash and we are appealing for information to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"Enquiries are ongoing and we're appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who was in that area with a dash-cam fitted to their vehicle, to contact us."
