Man hospitalised with serious eye and head wounds after violent attack in broad daylight

A man is in hospital with serious head and eye injuries after being violently attacked in Glasgow city centre. The 42-year-old had been on Argyle Street, near the Sainsbury's Local store in Trongate before he was pounced on at 3.10pm on Saturday, July 2.

Medics rushed to the scene and took the victim to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to his wounds. His current condition is unknown.

Officers are keen to trace a man who was spotted at the scene of the incident. He is described as white, 6ft, aged 25 to 35-years-old, with dark hair and a trimmed beard.

At the time of the assault, he was wearing a dark coloured Hugo Boss t-shirt, a grey hooded jumper, dark shorts and dark trainers. Detective Constable Jenna Baillie said: “The area was busy around the time of this incident and I am asking anyone who saw anything to get in touch.

“I am also asking anyone who knows the man described, or the man himself, to get on touch as we believe he can help with our ongoing investigation. If you can assist with our enquiries then please call us on 101, quoting incident number 2153 of Saturday, 2 July, 2022, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
