Man found dead on train tracks named locally as 'lovely lad'

A man who was found dead on train tracks closed to Huyton Railway Station was named locally as a "lovely lad".

British Transport Police rushed to the station at around 10.29pm on Thursday, July 21 to reports of a body on the tracks. Paramedics also went to the scene to provide treatment, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, the man's next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

The man was today (Friday) named locally by heartbroken friends as "Ricky", who was described as a "lovely lad" by many. Bernie Pugh said: "Rest in peace Ricky, didn’t need to happen. Another life gone too early, I was in school and everything with him, good lad.

"Society forgets men go through emotional stress too. Wish more men would open up, you know, we’re all supposed to be a man and open up. G.B.N.F."

Carolyn Marsden said: "Rip Ricky sad news your a good kid condolences to his mum and family xx." Janine Done said: "So sad he was a lovely lad sweet dreams Rikki."

Terrianne Brew said: "Absolutely heartbreaking... love to all Rikki's family. Another young lad gone such a cruel world we live in..."

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Huyton at 10.29pm yesterday evening (21 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Yesterday it was confirmed that another person died after being hit by a train between Wigan North Western and Preston. A National Rail spokesperson said emergency services arrived at the scene, since 4.39am on Thursday, July 21. Officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding their death.

A spokesperson for the force said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Wigan at 3.34am today (21 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the full circumstances behind their death."
