Tributes to man found dead on train tracks who was loved 'so much'

Tributes have poured in for a man who was found dead on the train tracks near to Huyton Railway Station.

British Transport Police were called to the station at around 10.29pm on Thursday, July 21, after reports of a body on the tracks. Paramedics also attended to provide treatment, but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The force confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, the man's next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner. The man has been named locally by heartbroken friends as "Rikki", and a number of moving tributes have been left at the scene.

One person left flowers, with a note reading "Rikki you were loved so much. Rest in peace mate.", while another wrote, "rest in paradise mate, GBNF."

Another tribute described "Rikki" as the "kindest soul", with the person writing, "you were always there to save me". A number of balloons reading "RIP Rikki" have also been left at the scene.

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Huyton at 10.29pm Thursday evening (21 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

On Friday it was confirmed that another person died after being hit by a train between Wigan North Western and Preston. A National Rail spokesperson said emergency services arrived at the scene at 4.39am on Thursday, July 21. Officers are now investigating the circumstances surrounding their death.

A spokesperson for the force said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Wigan at 3.34am today (21 July) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are currently working to identify the full circumstances behind their death."
