Man dies after vehicle crashes through guard rail

A man has died this morning in a single vehicle crash off the northbound lanes of Erindale Drive, in Canberra's south, bringing the ACT's road fatality this year to four.

In a statement, ACT policing said, at about 6.45am, they received reports of a vehicle that had travelled through a guard rail into the embankment below near Farrer Ridge.

The man was declared deceased at the scene despite the efforts of onlookers and emergency services.

The northbound lanes of Erindale Drive have been closed from the Sulwood Drive intersection.

Walking trails near the crash area have also been closed.

Canberrans are asked to avoid the surrounding area while authorities conduct their investigation.

ACT Policing are not treating the death as suspicious and would like to remind Canberrans to remain vigilant and drive safely on our roads.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information about the circumstances leading to the man's death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.

Police are seeking dashcam footage from any vehicle that was driving on Erindale Drive, between Sulwood Drive and Long Gully Road, after 9.30pm on Saturday and before 3.10am on Sunday.
