Man dies after M4 crash near Cardiff

Police are appealing for information after a man died in a crash on the M4 near Cardiff. The crash happened at around 12.15pm on Sunday between junctions 30 and 32 eastbound and involved a grey Mercedes vehicle.

South Wales Police say that the car collided with the central reservation before coming to a halt on the hard shoulder. They have now confirmed that a a 69-year-old man from Fife, Scotland, died at the scene.

Police originally described the incident as a medical emergency. The motorway was closed in both directions while emergency services attended.

Just before 1.45pm the eastbound carriageway re-opened, and westbound just before 2pm. Traffic Wales said earlier that the carriageways in both directions were closed between junction 32 Coryton and junction 30 Cardiff Gate.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Our thoughts are with the deceased’s family at this time. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen the collision or the way in which the grey Mercedes was being driven prior to the incident, or who may have any dash-cam footage to contact us."

If anyone has any information about the crash, or any footage, they are being asked to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101 quoting reference number 2200392167 or go to: https://orlo.uk/aVwSO
