Manchester City could be without as many as 11 first-team players for the trip to face Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League tonight.
The growing injury list seemed to catch up with City as they were comfortably beaten in the Manchester derby.
Visiting Bodo/Glimt, who remain winless in the Champions League this season, provides a good opportunity for Guardiola to get back to winning ways, though he must first find a workaround in several positions.
His options are particularly limited in defence. Matheus Nunes did not travel after falling ill ahead of Saturday’s derby, while Josko Gvardiol, Ruben Dias and John Stones are all ruled out with injuries.
Rayan Ait-Nouri has made two cameo appearances since returning from AFCON and could make his first start for City since November in this match should Guardiola look to rest Nico O’Reilly and Nathan Ake.
Abdukodir Khusanov and Max Alleyne, recently recalled from a loan to Watford, are expected to step in as centre-backs, lining up in front of reliable shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Guardiola has confirmed that Phil Foden broke his hand in the derby defeat, but said he is available for selection anyway.
He said: “He has a little bit broken his bones, but he has a protection and he's fine for tomorrow.”
With Bernardo Silva suspended, Tijjani Reinders should step back into midfield, with Rayan Cherki out on the right in place of Antoine Semenyo.
The Ghanaian has already seen plenty of minutes since completing his move from Bournemouth, but cannot be added to City’s tournament squad until the knockout stages. The same is true of Marc Guehi, whose transfer from Crystal Palace was confirmed on Monday.
Erling Haaland’s position could soon come under threat now Omar Marmoush has returned from AFCON, where he missed a penalty as Egypt were beaten by Nigeria in the third-place play-off on Saturday. The Norwegian should retain his place on return to his home country, though.
There is plenty of academy talent in the squad, too. Kian Noble, Charlie Gray, Divine Mukasa, Stephen Mfuni and Tyrone Samba will all hope to make their Champions League debuts.
