Manchester City players and staff broke into song with Sir Elton John after their FA Cup final triumph over Manchester United on Saturday.
Ilkay Gundogan struck in each half of City as they completed the domestic double having already wrapped up the Premier League title last month. Pep Guardiola’s side now have eyes on the treble as they face Italian giants Inter in next week’s Champions League final.
At Wembley, City found themselves ahead within seconds as Gundogan volleyed home in the opening seconds of the encounter and while Bruno Fernandes levelled from the penalty spot, Gundogan struck again after the break.
It continued a hugely successful season for City, who secured their first domestic double since 2019 and now have their eyes on the treble – an achievement that would emulate that of Manchester rivals United, who infamously secured the feat in 1999.
City’s stars jetted back to Manchester after the Saturday victory at Wembley over their city neighbours, arriving back in the city at night. Upon landing, they were greeted by pop star Elton John – who had been performing at Manchester's AO Arena on Saturday night.
John is a big fan of football and was the chairman and director of Watford between 1976 and 1987, and again from 1997 to 2002, and is now an honorary life president of the club. He was a fan of the Hornets from childhood.

City shared footage of their players being greeted and congratulated by John after landing on Saturday night. Kevin de Bruyne, Manuel Akanji, Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake, Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden, the latter of whom requested John posed for a photo.
City’s players and staff were then videoed, in footage shared by City’s social media accounts, of breaking into song with John. They were filmed singing his hit Your Song and serenading John, with spirits clearly extremely high.
John then gave the City players a motivating speech ahead of next week’s Champions League final against Inter in Istanbul. The songwriter said: “One more next week.”
Guardiola’s side now stand on the verge of history as they are one game away not only from completing the treble, but of lifting Europe’s most coveted trophy for the first time in their history. They are competing in just their second Champions League final, having lost the 2021 edition to Chelsea.
