Man City’s title destiny out of their hands after costly Nottingham Forest draw

Go back seven years and Manchester City may have won the title with a goal-line clearance. By John Stones, against Liverpool, when it was 11mm from a goal, when the margins were at their narrowest. Now a goal-line clearance reduced the chances they will regain their crown. Murillo’s 99th-minute salvage job denied Savinho and reshaped the picture at both ends of the table.

A night when City lost two leads may have cost them much more. They lost two points and two leads. Pep Guardiola has won the Premier League six times but there might not be a seventh, the balance of power shifting south, towards his old assistant Mikel Arteta and Arsenal as the gap stretched to seven points. Guardiola is the manager who has made history but now City’s destiny is out of their hands. Nottingham Forest’s combination of resilience and brilliance was transformative.
