Manchester City are reportedly planning a £30million transfer 'swoop' for Brentford left-back Aaron Hickey.
Hickey has only been at the Bees for one season after signing from Italian side Bologna in the summer but he has impressed in west London. Having been tracked by Aston Villa before moving to Italy, Scotland international Hickey is now said to be a target for Pep Guardiola's side
The Sun report that Guardiola is keen on signing Hickey as he plans a revamp of his options in defence with Fulham's Antonee Robinson also said to be a target, but a move for the USMNT international could be too expensive. Guardiola recently hinted at a reduced role for Kyle Walker while Joao Cancelo, loaned out to Bayern Munich in January, also faces an uncertain future.
City had previously been linked with a move for Chelsea's Ben Chilwell having been keen on the England international before he signed for Frank Lampard's side from Leicester in 2020 for a fee of around £50million. Reports emerged earlier this year that Chilwell was back on a transfer shortlist at City but any move has now been blocked by the new contract the player signed with Chelsea earlier this month.
The 26 year-old opted to pledge his future to the Blues having returned to the team after a hamstring injury. "I feel very settled at Chelsea and have really enjoyed my time on the pitch here, so I'm very pleased the club wants me to be part of the project long term, and am very happy to sign this extension to my contract," he said after extending terms until 2027.
"We are working hard for success and I will do my best to bring more smiles to the faces of the fans who have made me feel so welcome."
