Man City player ratings vs FC Copenhagen as Riyad Mahrez poor but Rodri good

Ederson

Early mis-control would have his heart in his mouth. Couple of routine saves but otherwise well protected. 6

Joao Cancelo

Had to operate at both right-back and left-back and not at his creative best. Worked hard as a wing-back in the second 45 minutes. 6

Manuel Akanji

Moved to right-back and then wing-back in the second half, but lacked a little quality on the ball at times. Defended solidly enough. 6

Aymeric Laporte

Won the penalty with his header but was very solid in the centre of defence, barely giving FC Copenhagen's forwards a sniff. 7

Sergio Gomez

Started tenaciously but made a poor decision with the red card incident that forced a City reshuffle at the back. 4

Rodri

So unlucky to see his goal disallowed. Played as a central defender in a back three in the second half but attacked the ball whenever he had the chance. Impressive in that position. 7

Ilkay Gundogan

Overrun at times in the second half in what was essentially a two-man midfield, but kept going and provided a shield to the defence. 6

Kevin De Bruyne

Not at his best in the first half and wasted possession a few times during the night. Became more influential after the break. 6

Jack Grealish

Asked to be a second striker in the second half while also working back. Few good moments but pretty peripheral really. 5

Riyad Mahrez

His handball led to Rodri's disallowed goal and his penalty was poor when given chance to make amends. 4

Julian Alvarez

Forced Grabara into an early save with a good effort but fairly anonymous after that. Not helped by the red card and became isolated, but didn't do enough. 5

Substitutes

Ruben Dias

Came on after the red card and spent a few minutes at left-back before defence was organised. Defended well. 7

Bernardo Silva

Little to make an impact. 6

Phil Foden

Little time to make an impact. 6

Nathan Ake

Same. N/A
