Man City icon explains vital lesson Nottingham Forest taught Pep Guardiola's side in disappointing draw

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha believes that his old club were taught a lesson when it comes to taking their chances following their draw with Nottingham Forest.

City had 73 per cent possession and 23 shots at the City Ground but only had the one goal to show for their dominance going into the last ten minutes. Those missed chances came back to bite with six minutes of normal time remaining as Chris Wood scored from close range to draw Forest level.

The draw meant that City lost top spot to Arsenal at the weekend following their victory over Aston Villa. The gap now stands at two points and the Gunners still have a game in hand on the Blues.

Speaking to City's Matchday Live at full-time, Onuoha claimed that Pep Guardiola's team need to be more clinical. He explained: "They did have control of the game but it just shows that in the Premier League you have to be clinical, especially away from home.

"You knew Forest would have a go at some point. They drip-fed momentum and even though they only had one shot on target, look at the nature of that finish – it was a tap in.

"That shows they got plenty of players forward. They will feel like they got what they deserved from that second-half performance.

"When we speak about being clinical that is up front, in midfield and at the back. In the Premier League, if you assume that one goal is enough you will get a rude awakening and that’s what we saw."

City will have a break from the Premier League in midweek when they travel to RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16, first leg.
