Man City chairman responds to Premier League charges as Pep Guardiola details Ilkay Gundogan contract 'hope'

Here are your Monday evening Manchester City headlines.

Al Mubarak on Premier League charges

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak promised to air his "very strong views" on the Premier League charges the club faces after the legal process has been completed.

Treble winners City were hit by a string of serious charges in February by the Premier League, accusing them of misrepresenting their finances for almost a decade of football as well as failling to co-operate with an investigation into that. The Blues have denied all of the alleged rule breaches and want to clear their name, although the unprecedented nature and scale of the charges mean a decision may not come for years.

Pep Guardiola has been the only senior figure to comment on the charges in the four months since they were announced, but Al Mubarak briefly addressed the issue in his end-of-season interview with club media. While he did not go into detail, the chairman did say he would be more candid at the end of the battle.

"Obviously I can’t talk about them unfortunately for legal reasons," he said on the day after the Champions League final. "And what I would typically always do is comment after, so I think we’re going to go through, we’re going through the legal process."

Guardiola on Gundogan

Pep Guardiola hopes to keep Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City but admits he is aware of interest from Barcelona.

Gundogan will become a free agent when his contract expires on June 30, with the German midfielder included in Friday's released list. The 32-year-old is still in talks with the club over a new deal, but is thought to be weighing up his options.

City made a push to keep Gundogan at the Etihad towards the end of the season, following a brilliant run of form in a crucial period through April and May. However the length of a new deal is thought to be a sticking point, with the Blues currently only willing to offer a one-year deal with the option to extend a further 12 months.

Barcelona and Arsenal are both interested in signing the German international on a free transfer, while former club Borussia Dortmund have also made an offer for him to return. But Guardiola remains hopeful his club captain will stay at least another year.
