A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a woman was found dead at a home in Worcester and another was left with life-threatening injuries.

Wendy Francis, 61, was described as “one in a million” by her family as they paid tribute to her after she was found dead on Saturday evening.

A 38-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but was now in a stable condition, West Mercia police said.

Damian Homer, 50, was charged on Monday morning and will appear at Kidderminster magistrates court later.

A spokesperson for West Mercia police previously said: “Although formal identification has yet to take place, with permission of the family we are able to confirm that Wendy Francis, aged 61, sadly lost her life in the incident which is being investigated by West Mercia police.”

DCI Leighton Harding, from the major investigation unit at West Mercia police, previously reassured the public it was an “isolated incident”.

“You will notice a higher police presence in the area in the coming days as officers investigate this incident,” he said. “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has sadly lost her life.”

In a statement released over the weekend, Francis’s family, said: “Wendy will be hugely missed; she was one in a million and much-loved.”

A number of people posted tributes on social media following the news.

“I’m struggling to believe this is real,” read one. “Wendy has been a part of my life ever since I was young. Rest in peace sweet angel.”

“I have known Wendy for a very long time, my heart breaks,” said another.
