Man attacked with baseball bats in broad daylight as armed group flee Paisley street

Police are hunting a gang who attacked a man with baseball bats in broad daylight on a housing estate in Paisley. A 45-year-old man was violently assaulted in a targeted attack by the armed group who chased him in Whitesbridge Avenue, at around 1.20pm on Saturday, October 29.

Four men leapt from a white motor and viciously attacked the victim before jumping back into the car and fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries.

The first male suspect is described as being white, in his early forties, with a stocky build, heavy stubble and short brown hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit top with white writing on the chest and black tracksuit bottoms.

The second attacker was wearing a grey puffer style jacket zipped to the top with the hood up. While the third is described as being white, approximately 5’11” – 6’ tall, with a slim build. He was wearing a full black tracksuit with the hood up. There is no information on the fourth suspect.

Officers are scouring CCTV footing from in and around the area for any additional information on the suspects or the vehicle. Detective Constable James Campbell, Paisley CID, said: “While enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this attack, we believe it to be targeted.

“It was a vicious assault that happened in the middle of the day, weapons were used and the man has been badly injured. We would appeal to anyone who may have seen the attack take place, who may have doorbell or dash-cam footage capturing the incident, or who has any information that will assist the investigation to come forward.

“Information can be passed to police via 101. Please quote reference number 1791 of Saturday, 29 October 2022 when calling. Alternatively, details can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The shocking incident comes just two days after knife thugs stabbed a man in a playpark in broad daylight after a terrifying car chase through the streets of Johnstone. Horrific footage emerged appearing to show the alleged victim, 21, with the end of his tongue cut off and a broken front tooth, following the attack in the Renfrewshire town on Thursday, October 27.

He was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment to serious but non-life threatening injuries. In footage from the scene, smoke could be seen billowing from the two wrecked motors, while one of the cars' horns continued to blare.

Two people dressed in black clothing could be seen running towards a man on the ground, and appearing to repeatedly stab him as he lies stricken. A black Ford Fiesta then reversed at speed, before fleeing the scene.

Disturbing Snapchat footage, obtained by the Daily Record, appeared to show the terrifying car chase moments before the playpark bloodbath.

The clip, which appears to have been taken by a driver involved in the pursuit, shows a white car veering across both lanes of the road as it narrowly avoids oncoming traffic while being pursued by a second car.

Detective Constable Jade Clark of Paisley Police Station said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we are working to establish the full circumstances and identify the people involved in this incident."Our enquiries suggest other people were in the area at the time of the incident and they may have dashcam or mobile phone footage which could help our investigation. Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 1930 of October 27, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
