Man arrested on suspicion of threatening to commit arson with intent to endanger life after major incident in Swansea

A man aged 31 has been arrested after a serious incident in Swansea. Multiple emergency services including public order police officers, fire crews and paramedics were called to an incident in St Helen's Avenue in the Brynmill area of the city on Monday afternoon and a police cordon was soon put in place, blocking access to dozens of homes and businesses in the area.

Local residents were reportedly advised to stay indoors and some said they heard police negotiators in the street speaking to a man in a property via a loud-speaker. The police cordon remained in place for several hours and officers at the scene referred to the incident as "serious".

South Wales Police has now confirmed the nature of the incident. In a statement, officers said: "Emergency services were called to St Helen's Avenue in Brynmill, Swansea, just before 2pm today. A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of threatening to commit arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in police custody and enquiries are on-going. No-one has been injured."
