Man arrested on suspicion of murder, pupil abused and jailed this week

These are the latest ECHO headlines this morning.

Murder arrest as man dies following fall from window

A man has died following a fall from the window of a building on Longmoor Lane.

Police confirmed they were called to a house on the street, near the junction with Inglis Road, at around 9.55pm last night, on Sunday, May 8. North West Ambulance Service also attended the scene and rushed a man, in his 40s, to hospital where he died.

Officers have now lunched a murder investigation and revealed that a 43-year-old man, who is known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody and will be questioned by police.

Witnesses at the scene told the ECHO that the man had reportedly fallen from an upstairs window of a terraced house on Longmoor Lane. The man was said to have hit the railings outside the property as he fell to the ground.

Scientific support officers in white protective suits could be seen carrying out investigative work at the scene which appeared to centre around a three-storey terraced property with a skylight type window on the top floor. Sheets had been placed on the pavement outside.

Teacher had 'his hand down my pants' but justice was denied

A man has shared claims he was the victim of sexual abuse at the hands of his former teacher.

*Simon (not his real name) attended Formby High School in the 1980s and found himself reliving buried memories when the ECHO reported on the lawsuit that has now seen 30 former pupils of Formby High School come forward claiming they suffered horrific abuse at the hands of Ian Farquharson. Farquharson was the head of the lower school and killed himself in 1992 after a complaint was made by the mother of a child.

The ECHO reported earlier this week that Farquharson had been charged with inciting young boys to commit acts of gross indecency in 1980. According to reports in the ECHO, in February 1980, Farquharson plied his pupils with lemonade after school hours and encouraged them to commit sex acts while he spied on them through a keyhole.

However, he was cleared of that charge at Crosby Magistrates' Court, after claiming the boys had "tried to get him into trouble" after he had to "discipline" them in the past. He was allowed to carry on teaching after the case was dismissed, telling reporters he was glad his "ordeal" was over.

Simon has revealed that Farquharson had "his hand down my pants" after he was intercepted on his way to seeing the Matron at the school when he was feeling unwell one day. Simon claims this was the first time that Farquharson targeted him.

Faces of 10 people jailed in Liverpool this week

The ECHO have listed 10 people locked up for crimes linked to Merseyside this past week.

Our courts heard about a man who helped run a £9m plot to distribute cocaine across Britain. Meanwhile, one judge sentenced a drug addict who dragged a pensioner down the street in a despicable failed robbery.

Judges had to sentence a burgling mum who wept as she was led to the cells for a jail term which means she might not see her father alive again. They also sentenced an abusive boyfriend who wouldn't let his partner shower or go to the toilet alone.

A twisted paedophile who took children's underwear with him when he went to meet what he thought was an 11-year-old girl was sentenced. A court also heard about a fugitive crook linked to a Russian pistol.

Here is an overview of some of those which have concluded this past week.
