A man was arrested by police investigating multiple fraudulent travel insurance claims, it's been revealed.
Officers from a specialist unit based in London, supported by Greater Manchester Police, swooped on a residential property in the Bolton area of Greater Manchester in a dawn raid on Tuesday.
Police said a man was arrested and taken into custody for questioning. His age has not been released and an exact area of Bolton where he was arrested hasn't been revealed. The suspect, who hasn't been named, was later released on bail with conditions until June this year.
The Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED) based within the City of London Police confirmed it executed a search warrant on the address.
It came as part of an ongoing investigation 'into multiple fraudulent travel insurance claims', IFED said. No further details have been revealed.
In a statement, Detective Constable Vincent Baughan, from the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED) at the City of London Police, said: "Officers from the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department, supported by colleagues from Greater Manchester Police, executed a search warrant at a residential premises in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on Tuesday 8 March 2023 as part of an investigation into multiple fraudulent travel insurance claims.
"One man was arrested and has been bailed with conditions until June 2023."
The Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department was set up in 2012 as a bespoke unit within the City of London Police dedicated to combatting insurance fraud.
It's funded by the insurance industry via the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and has a national remit, investigating insurance fraud throughout England and Wales.
