Police have confirmed that a 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an investigation into a number of vehicle fires.

The incidents took place in McTaggart Crescent in the Ravenscraig estate on Monday, January 24, and Sunday, January 30.

The accused is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today (Monday, February 14).

Detective Inspector David Lamont said: “I’d like to thank the local community for their assistance with this investigation.”

Nobody was injured in the incident but police had called for the public’s help in identifying who was responsible.

Speaking in the week after the incidents, Ravenscraig councillor Kenneth Duffy said: “It is always frightening when incidents like this happen and residents have rightly been concerned.

“The police have ensured extra patrols will take place across the area and are working hard on both enquires.”
