Man accused of throwing broken glass at partner, dragging her into water in alleged domestic violence attack at Darwin's East Point

A man is facing charges over an alleged domestic violence attack at a Darwin beach over the weekend, which was only stopped when a bystander intervened as the man was dragging his female partner into the water.

The 37-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering serious harm, according to a statement released by NT Police on Monday.

Police said the man and 39-year-old woman were at Lake Alexander at East Point on Saturday morning when they began to argue.

The man allegedly threw a broken glass bottle at the woman, which police said caused a large laceration to her arm and substantial bleeding.

They allege the man then dragged the woman to the ocean, pushing her into the water before a bystander intervened and provided first aid.

The man was arrested and has since been charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering serious harm.

In the statement NT Police Sergeant Caragh Hen said the victim had endured "horrendous" treatment.

Police said she was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

St John's Ambulance confirmed they attended at the scene.

NT Police said officers are seeking witnesses who were in the area on Saturday morning.

"We would like to thank members of the public who rendered aid, and we are aware that there were a number of people in the immediate vicinity," Sergeant Hen said.

The man was expected to face the Darwin Local Court on Monday.

Also on Monday, police issued statements about two separate alleged aggravated assaults in the Darwin CBD on Friday.

A 42-year-old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 61-year-old woman and knocking a 68-year-old man unconscious with a blunt weapon in Raintree Park around five o'clock in the afternoon.

Both victims were taken to hospital after witnesses intervened and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Separately, a 15-year-old boy was charged after allegedly dragging a 16-year-old girl from a vehicle with which she and a 26-year-old woman had been trying to escape him.

Police said the pair fled to a nearby unit for shelter, but the boy forced entry before threatening the 16-year-old again and leaving the scene with her.

They said the boy was arrested on Saturday and charged with aggravated assault and damage to property.

He was due to face court on Monday.
