Man accused of rape posed as model scout to lure Bishopton teen to lingerie photo shoot

An aspiring model has told how a man accused of raping two women posed as a female scout to tempt her to a lingerie shoot.

James Donoghue, 36, pretended to be ‘Debbie Fox’ on social media in an attempt to set up a lingerie shoot with the Bishopton teenager, who cannot be identified.

Evidence heard at Donoghue’s rape trail, at a High Court sitting in Paisley, revealed that he used several aliases and claimed to work for a management agency called ‘D2 Model and TV Extras’.

However, the teenager became suspicious when she was asked about her bra size and if she’d been sexually active.

She told the court: “I had just turned 17 and Debbie Fox sent me a friend request in November 2012, on Facebook then a message saying she was from a company called D2 Model and TV Extras.

“She sent me an email to fill out and that’s when I felt it was weird.

“The form asked my bra size, my clothes size and if I was sexually active and if I had sex in the last six months.

“I left those questions blank but filled out my age, and height.”

A Facebook message, which had been agreed between the crown and the defence as being sent by Donoghue, was read out to the court showing reply from Debbie Fox.

It said: “Thanks for the quick response.

“One of my photographers will meet up with you somewhere comfortable and relaxed.

“We won’t tie you into any contract.

“We will do a photoshoot in a couple of outfits, maybe a lingerie shoot.

“These will be used in your portfolio but won’t be totally professional.”

The teenager never followed up with the invitation.

The trial also heard earlier today how Donoghue had sent a message posing as ‘Alexia Scanlin’ - a model working for the agency, who claimed to have made thousands of pounds on luxury shoots.

The message stated Alexia had earned “almost £25k” by doing “three jobs in Asia” and that the work was “fun.”

Donoghue faces allegations that he raped to two women at various hotels in Paisley and Glasgow.

The women are alleged to have been “directed” on what to wear and how to “behave” with Donoghue.

It is claimed they were then recorded - without their knowledge - by concealed cameras and microphones.

The charge involving the first woman spans between December 2010 and August 2014.

It lists a number of locations in Renfrewshire including the Holiday Inn and Ramada hotels in Paisley.

The allegation involving the second woman is from January 2011 and April 2014.

A number of places in Glasgow are listed including the Grand Central Hotel and a flat in the city’s Merchant City.

Donoghue faces an alternative to each rape charge in that he did “extort sexual intercourse” from both women.

Donoghue, of Royston, Glasgow, denies all charges against him.

The trial before Judge Lord Cubie continues.
