Man, 83, who died alongside his dog in Prestwick lorry crash named

A man and his dog who were both killed in a tragic lorry crash have been named by police.

John Ward, 83, also known as Jack, died at the scene with his dog Benji after they were struck by a lorry in Prestwick.

Emergency services raced to the scene in Ayr Road, at the junction with Pleasantfield Road on Friday, September 9 around 9.25am.

However, sadly both Mr Ward and Benji died at the scene.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Police are continuing to probe the tragic crash and have appealed again for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Scott Gourlay, from Ayrshire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Ward at this difficult time.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to get in touch.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage.

"Anyone with information or footage should contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 0759 of 9 September."
