A 32-year-old hunter has been found dead in his car, with police saying he had been shot by his own dog.
The unnamed man was sitting in the front passenger seat of his pick-up, with hunting gear and a rifle in the backseat.
The victim, from Wichita, Kansas, was found dead near Geuda Springs, north of the Oklahoma border.
Police officers believe he died at around 9.40am on Saturday after his dog accidentally stepped on the rifle, causing the weapon to discharge.
The hunter was injured in his car and died at the scene.
The sheriff's office said: "A canine belonging to the owner of the pickup stepped on the rifle causing the weapon to discharge.
"The fired round struck the passenger who died of his injuries on scene."
Last year, a similar accident happened in Turkey when a new dad was shot dead by his dog after the pet stepped on the trigger of his gun.
Ozgur Gevrekoglu was on a hunting trip with friends and the incident reportedly occurred as he packed up his gear.
The 32-year-old put his still-loaded shotgun into his car boot, and the dog is said to have stepped on the trigger with its paw.
The owner was then blasted at close range and killed instantly.
Police and prosecutors were investigating the bizarre death on the Kizlan Plateau - in Alacam District, Samsun Province, Turkey.
Mr Gevrekoglu's body was first taken to Alacam State Hospital and then transferred to the state capital, Samsun, for an autopsy.
Local media reported that he had become a father just 10 days earlier.
A photo shows him grinning widely while holding up a string of dead birds with one hand and petting a dog's neck with the other.
Other photos show him with different dogs, including four puppies.
In one snap he is holding some live birds while dressed in camouflage.
It is unclear which dog is said to have been involved in the incident.
