A man aged in his 30s has died following a serious assault in Co Antrim on Friday evening.
Police and emergency services rushed to the scene in the Barna Square area of Rathcoole in Newtownabbey after receiving a report of a serious assault shortly after 8.15pm.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Major work is now underway to determine what happened, and police have launched a murder investigation.
Police have arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell said: "Police received a report shortly after 8:15pm on Friday evening, October 21, of a serious assault at an address in the Barna Square area.
"Sadly, despite medical treatment, the man died from his injuries at the scene. A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody at this time, assisting detectives with their enquiries.
"I am appealing to anyone who believes they may have information which could assist detectives with their investigation to contact us at the Major Investigation Team on 101 quoting reference 1779 of 21/10/22.
"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100 per cent anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
