New York City has released more than 170,000 pages of records from the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, revealing that city officials privately expected as many as 10,000 legal claims over toxic exposure while public statements repeatedly characterized air quality in Lower Manhattan as safe or acceptable.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the release on Tuesday at a City Hall news conference, ahead of the attacks' 25th anniversary. The documents are now available through a public online portal.
