Lyon defender Malo Gusto has arrived in London to complete a medical ahead of a summer transfer to Chelsea. The Blues agreed a £26.3million fee plus add-ons to sign the 19-year-old before loaning him back to Lyon until the end of the season.
Gusto has made 15 appearances for Lyon this term and has played a total of 54 games since making his debut in the 2020-21 campaign. Graham Potter will have to wait until next season to work with the talented defender but the Blues were keen to agree a deal to avoid missing out on his signature.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas revealed earlier this week the club were unwilling to let the 19-year-old leave the club this month. Chelsea had been looking at options to sign as cover for Reece James following the England international's knee problems this season, resulting in them identifying Gusto as the perfect player to bring in.
