NEW DELHI: Leading the first meeting of the Congress steering committee since he took charge as Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday cracked the whip on party leaders, pushed for organisational accountability from “top to bottom”, and said that those who do not measure up to the responsibilities assigned to them must make way for others.
His sharp remarks at the meeting belied the chatter at the time of his election that at age 80, he would be ineffective as the president of a party in dire need of resurrection. Kharge made it amply clear that there will be no room for tired leadership at any level under his helmsmanship, nor for letting responsibilities of running the organisations rest on a handful of shoulders.
