Malik Tillman has returned to training at Bayern Munich as the former Rangers loanee’s future remains up in the air.
Our Record Sport exclusive picture shows the 21-year-old USA international being put through his paces after returning to his parent club. Tillman, voted PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year this season, is back in Germany with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions with a decision still to be made on his future.
Tillman’s impressive spell at Rangers was cut short due to a hamstring injury he picked up in the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic. And he was working with the Bayern Munich fitness coach at the club’s training ground, Saebener Strasse, where he was put through a light session. It remains to be seen, though, if he will still be in Bavaria next season as part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Rangers have an option to buy the playmaker for £5million if all parties agree. Tillman said recently: “I’ve spoken to Michael Beale already and he said, ‘Just take your time. It’s your decision’. That’s what I’m going to do. The option is until the beginning of June or something so I still have three or four weeks to decide. I’m going to take my time because obviously it’s a big decision for me.”
Michael Beale stated before the final weekend of the Scottish Premiership that the Light Blues would hold a conversation with Bayern after the final weekend of Bundesliga action which took place at the weekend as Bayern clinched the title on a dramatic final day.
However, the Bundesliga giants have axed sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic which could delay any talks. Salihamidzic has previously been a key cheerleader of Tillman's – having offered the US international his first pro-contract as well as having the final say on his shot at moving to Rangers.
