Edinburgh Airport chaos: All flights suspended at Scotland's busiest airport due to ATC problem

Edinburgh Airport has been hit with a major IT issue which has forced the suspension of all flights.

The suspension was caused by an IT problem affecting its air traffic control provider, according to the airport.

It issued a statement about the flight suspension on social media at 9.20am on Friday.

“Teams are working on the issue and will resolve as soon as possible,” it said.

“We will provide updates when possible - please contact your airline for the latest information on your flight.”

Edinburgh Airport’s live departures website page informed passengers on a number of flights due to leave on Friday morning to go to the gate.

They included the 10.25am Ryanair flight to Belfast, the 10.35am EasyJet flight to Hurghada and the 10.40am EasyJet to Stansted.

In an update later in the morning, the airport announced that flights have resumed.

The statement at 10.45am the airport said: “Flights have now resumed following the IT issue with our air traffic control provider.

“We thank passengers for their patience and understanding.”

Air traffic control at Edinburgh Airport is provided by Air Navigation Solutions (ANSL).

It is understood the issue was not linked to the Cloudflare outage that caused a large number of websites to go down on Friday morning.

Edinburgh is Scotland’s busiest airport serving over 15.7 million passengers in 2024, making it the 6th busiest in the UK behind Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Stansted and Luton.
