A major Sky broadband outage was being reported today across Greater Manchester and in other parts of the north west.
Customers in Manchester have taken to social media to report 'a widespread outage', with the issue also understood to be affecting homes and businesses in Salford, Bolton and Wigan, together with addresses in Lancashire.
Websites set up to monitor and publicise outages have reported a surge in problem reports submitted to Sky. The reported outage - on the second day of the half-term break - follows news the Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp was down this morning with people unable to send or receive messages.
Sky broadband customers have taken to Twitter to share their frustrations and report what is going on.
One Twitter user posted: "WhatsApp & Sky Broadband down. Suggested the kids go for a walk!" Another added: "Trying to work from home but Sky broadband down again...Thanks."
While a third said: "Sky Broadband is down in Blackburn, seeing a lot of other outages as well. Any updates on what’s going on and when fixes will be applied?"
Sky's customers services department was being flooded with Twitter messages in response to the situation.
One customer asked them: "Are you able to address outages in the UK? Seems the North West is pretty much all without broadband which isn’t great for those working from home, who have Sky Glass etc?"
According to reports, the M29 area of Wigan is being affected together with the M28 area covering parts of Salford and Wigan and M27 for the Swinton and Pendlebury areas, together with Worsley.
Customers are also sharing screenshots of messages from Sky confirming 'an outage on our network'.
In response to a message from a customer in Bolton, Sky said on Twitter: "Hi, we're aware of an outage within this area and our engineers will be working to get this fixed as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience caused."
The Manchester Evening News has contacted Sky for details, comment and to ask how many customers are affected.
