A main road was closed after a car ploughed into traffic lights near a roundabout.
Linacre Lane in Bootle was closed in both directions after a crash involving one car, near the roundabout with Stanley Road, at around 1.30pm this afternoon (Friday).

Ahmed, who owns Aden Gulf News on Linacre Lane, said he heard a "big bang" at the time of the crash, which he initially believed was caused by nearby building work. He said: "I was serving customers. I had five people waiting and once I finished serving them I went outside and saw the crash.
"If I knew it was a crash I would have gone outside straight away." Ahmed said he was worried when he saw the damage caused by the crash but paramedics and police were already at the scene.
Merseyside Police said a man was taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries which are not reported to be serious.
A woman, who did not want to be named, told the ECHO people at a nearby bus stop tried to help free the man from the car. She said: "All I heard was a great big bang.
"A few people had the door open on the car and I said does anyone want any help? They were trying to get him out of the car, it took the ambulance crew to get him out.
"It's completely demolished the whole traffic light."
