Maharashtra: Why limit discounts to EV battery of 30kwh capacity, ask experts

MUMBAI: The early bird discount in Maharashtra’s Electric Vehicle (EV) policy is limited by battery capacity of 30kWh. Allowing this discount on all EVs without limitation of battery or vehicle type will open up the market for many customers.

This was one of the recommendations by experts at an online workshop organised by Climate Trends recently and is part of a report to be submitted to the state government. The report mentioned, “The duration of early bird discounts should be extended for at least two more years, until the external EVs ecosystem is strong enough to encourage sales without financial incentives.” An additional observation that emerged was that fleet operators were “left out of the subsidy provision”.

“Special policy provisions for fleet operators to avail subsidies must also be considered for shared transport, delivery and cargo use-cases,” the report said. Those taking part in the workshop included representatives from EV industry, manufacturing, charging, NGOs and think-tanks
