Maharashtra sees more than 4,000 daily Covid cases after 4 months, Mumbai 2,300

MUMBAI: The daily Covid tally in the state and the city soared by 36% and 33% over Tuesday, even as four more patients were found with Omicron's emerging BA.5 strain.

Public health department officials said the cases from Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pune had come positive between May 26 and June 9. Till Wednesday, the state reported 19 confirmed cases with the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants that have descended from the original Omicron.
