Maharashtra's active Covid caseload drops below 10,000 for 1st time this year

MUMBAI: The state's active Covid caseload dropped below 10,000 for the first time this year, even as the daily tally dipped under 1,000 for the second time this week.

The last time that Maharashtra's active cases were below 10,000 was on December 26, 2021 (9,813). On Monday, the daily case tally was 806. According to the state Covid update on Friday, Maharashtra recorded 973 fresh cases and 8,688 active cases.

The corresponding numbers in Mumbai were 128 and 1,014. The state's daily toll registered a further drop from 19 on Thursday to 12 on Friday.

Mumbai recorded zero deaths for the sixth time in February. In Mumbai, 88% of the 128 who tested positive on Friday were asymptomatic and 15 needed hospitalisation.

Only two patients needed oxygen supply. Only 721 (2%) out of the 36,102 Covid beds in the city are presently occupied.
