Maharashtra Political Row: SC declines urgent hearing on Shiv Sena's plea to suspend rebel MLAs

New Delhi: The Shiv Sena moved the Supreme Court again on Friday, seeking to bar the rebel MLAs led by Eknath Shinde from the Maharashtra assembly. This comes a day after Eknath Shinde was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis taking oath as his deputy.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and J B Pardiwala was urged by senior advocate Kapil Sibal that the plea needed urgent hearing due to the pendency of disqualification proceedings against 16 lawmakers including the Chief Minister.

However, the Top Court refused urgent hearing in the matter.

The Apex Court on 27 June had already listed the matter for 11 July on the petition of Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu seeking suspension from assembly of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and 15 rebel MLAs against whom disqualification pleas are pending.
