Jabs have likely prevented millions of deaths, experts say

PUNE: Infectious diseases expert Dr Sanjay Pujari, a member of the national Covid task force, said, "Among all interventions to reduce Covid-19 deaths, full vaccination has the greatest efficacy. Modelling studies suggest that vaccines may have prevented millions of deaths globally."

Dr Pujari also underlined the importance of precautionary doses for citizens above 60 years of age. "Among vaccine breakthrough infections, comorbidities and especially advanced age may be associated with residual mortality due to waning T-cell immunity. So it is important to get a precautionary dose for all above 60 with comorbidities to further have an impact on reducing Covid deaths," he said.
