Maharashtra has most undertrials from other states in its jails

MUMBAI: Maharashtra's prisons had the highest number of undertrials hailing from other states, compared to any other Indian prison, data with the National Crime Records Bureau for 2020 reveals.

Over 5,200 inmates in Maharashtra's prisons were domiciled in other states, accounting for 16% of the total (32, 134), followed by Uttar Pradesh (4,160 inmates).
