AURANGABAD: District collector Sunil Chavan, who is currently holding additional charge of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), has announced plans to install water meters for all commercial establishments.
Addressing reporters here on Monday, Chavan said the municipal limits of Aurangabad has around 1,500 such connections for hotels, hospitals and large private offices. “Installation of meters will ensure judicious use of water, which is need of the hour in Aurangabad considering the water crisis,” he said.
Chavan also said that villages drawing water from the main pipeline originating from Jayakwadi dam would also have to install water meters. “Dhorkin, Isarwadi and Dhangao villages directly lift water from the main pipeline. The supply system concerned will now witness installation of water meters. Also, judicious supply of water will be ensured for Krushnpur village that draws water from the main pipeline,” he said.
Stating that crackdown against illegal water connections has been already taking place in different parts of the city, Chavan said such unauthorised usersm drawing water directly from the main pipelines of the overhead tanks, will have to pay for excess water use besides facing official action.
The collector also said that Aurangabad has around 13,092 hand-pumps at different locations and efforts were on to tap water from these sources. “Different authorities are engaged to increase the frequency of water supply in Aurangabad. All the citizens are requested to join hands in ensuring judicious use of water,” he said.
