MAGA tried to force entry to a daycare alleging fraud, now Trump has frozen Minnesota childcare payments

Donald Trump has Minnesota squarely in his crosshairs, and he won’t rest until he’s turned its citizens against one another. Trump’s bugbear is the Minnesota Somali community, and he’s spent the last month making racist jabs at them and spreading disgusting lies about them.

To round out the year, Trump has now frozen child care payments for the entirety of Minnesota in the wake of a MAGA influencer Nick Shirley, who arrived at a daycare demanding to see the kids. As was quickly pointed out, no daycare center in their right mind would let a random man with a camera enter without parental consent.

Shirley alleges that the daycare centers are fraudulently accepting government money and have no children inside, though CBS has investigated his claims and found “no evidence of fraud” and confirms all had been inspected by state regulators within the last six months.

Turning Minnesotans against one another

The Trump administration doesn’t care about the kids, but they do care about driving a wedge between Somali Minnesotans and everyone else in the state. With this latest move, they can turn up the pressure on racial hatred and tell desperate parents who aren’t getting their much-needed childcare payments that Somalis are to blame.

Trump boosting Shirley’s video is also encouraging copycat ‘investigations’ against other Somali communities across the nation, with Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown noting:

“My office has received outreach from members of the Somali community after reports of home-based daycare providers being harassed and accused of fraud with little to no fact-checking. We are in touch with the state Department of Children, Youth, and Families regarding the claims being pushed online and the harassment reported by daycare providers.

Showing up on someone’s porch, threatening, or harassing them isn’t an investigation. Neither is filming minors who may be in the home. This is unsafe and potentially dangerous behavior.”

Trump has been clear that he doesn’t want Somalis in the United States, telling them they need to “go back to where they came from” and insisting “their country is no good for a reason”. Whatever else happens, expect tensions to rise in 2026. Whenever a country’s leader tells his hundreds of millions of acolytes that it’s open season on a minority community, that country is on a grim road.
