MAFS’ Sam Just Dropped A Bunch Of Tea About His Imploding Relationship With Chris

MAFS' Sam and Chris

Married At First Sight (MAFS) fans were left devastated this week when this season’s golden couple Sam Stanton and Chris Robinson (AKA one of the few 2026 matches that viewers were truly rooting for) began to implode.

The couple — who are only the fourth same-sex pairing to ever appear on the reality show — were going strong up until the recent Commitment Ceremony when Chris announced his post-show plans for their relationship, and Sam felt like his feelings weren’t being considered.

The pair continued to clash up until the Dinner Party, where they aired out their problems in front of the group, and unseen footage of Chris belittling Sam that was shown on Stan’s aftershow MAFS: After The Dinner Party has suggested there’s no coming back for them.

While viewers have struggled to piece together how the couple went from good to bad in just a few days, Sam explained to PEDESTRIAN.TV that the minor incident actually exposed a major flaw in their relationship.

“My biggest issue with Chris was his inability to be wrong or take accountability or see my side. He would always shut me down and be defensive,” he said.

“He had shut me down many times before that, but when I tried to speak up, it got way worse. And I was like, well, I can’t not speak up for the rest of our relationship. I guess that’s why it blew up into such a thing.”

Unseen moments in Chris and Sam’s relationship

In an effort to try to resolve their disagreement, Sam and Chris were shown having two on-camera conversations about their communication struggles. Sam told P.TV that they had a third conversation by the pool that wasn’t shown on TV, where he was “met with the same defensiveness”, but it was a different story when the cameras weren’t rolling.

He said that he eventually realised he wasn’t getting anywhere with Chris, so decided to put the issue aside until the Dinner Party to try and spend some quality time together.

“There was one day where I was just like, ‘Let’s just go enjoy the day’. I think that was our one-month anniversary, so I even bought him flowers, and I was like, ‘Even though we’re fighting right now, it’s still been a month’,” he recalled.

“I took him to see The Book of Mormon — and I paid for everything, just so you know. Then he went to the farm, I stayed at the apartments, and then he came back and I couldn’t put the front up anymore. I wasn’t talking, he was very hostile as well, and it was probably like that for a day and a half leading up to that car ride [to the Dinner Party].”

Sam admitted that he would’ve walked away from the relationship after their argument if they were in the real world, but was willing to work on things for the sake of the experiment.

“I honestly would have said, ‘Chris, you’re not hearing my point of view at all, I can’t be with someone who doesn’t understand me. I’m gonna leave, you call or text me if you want to talk about it more’,” he said. “That’s how I would’ve handled it on the outside, but the experiment’s about staying in it, and the Dinner Party is there to bring up your relationship issues.”

He also said that, although they weren’t close to saying “I love you” and they noticeably didn’t share the same sense of humour, he was feeling hopeful about his future with Chris before their relationship took a sharp turn at the Commitment Ceremony and wanted to get back to that place.

“I was actually reading my journal from the show this morning, and on the way into that Commitment Ceremony I was like, ‘This could really work’,” he detailed.

“I had written things like, ‘Chris is such a kind guy and he really supports me and he really pumps me up and says all these nice things’. Because I think I was struggling with the fact that there wasn’t really a playful side to Chris with me, but I was really leaning into how much he supported me. We were really heading in a good direction.”

The MAFS experiment has famously seen couples come back from worse, so we’ll have to wait and see if Chris and Sam can break the gay curse and end the reality show together or if they’ll both end up back on the dating apps.
